The Flora of Jordan

I’ve been working on this one for some time; gathering and making pictures of flowers and plants wherever I go. Not many words for this post, but many, many pictures. I happen to think that it’s far more enjoyable to look at the wonders of Mother Nature than to talk about them. I hope the ones of you who enjoy flowers will enjoy this post.

Thinking of the Middle East conjures visions of vast desert landscapes. However, Jordan is home to around 2,500 plant species from 152 families; about 1% of the total flora of the world. Flowers are in evidence year round and it’s a real joy to stumble upon one and photograph it.

Many plants in Jordan, 349 species are rare and 76 species are threatened. Eighteen species are on the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists.

  1. Beautiful flowers and scenery! Yellow roses are my favorite. I love honeysuckle vines too. One of the pictures had some round things lying on the ground. They look kind of like oranges? What are they?

    • Thanks so much, Annette. My landlord has a honeysuckle in his front garden and when the breeze is out of the northeast, it brings the scent right into our place. I love it! The plant you asked about is called Sodom Apple.

  2. We are in blogging sync – I’m working on a blog post with all the wildflowers that I’ve seen around our house this spring. Love all your photos. The flora of Jordan really is beautiful indeed.

      • Still working my way through 1000 odd photos. So yes I might have got slightly carried away with the photos! – lol! If people are following both our blogs they might think that we are following a post schedule.
